Case Study

Composite Restoration for Frontal Incisors Damage

Patient Profile

Name:
Eva G.
Age:
12
Location:
Brussels, Belgium

Diagnosis

Front Incisor Traumatic Damage

Background

Eva G., an energetic 12-year-oldgirl, had an injury while playing with her friends.  Eva is our patient for some years already so she was received in our dental office in a short time. After the examination, it was determined that Eva's permanent teeth were still vital. Consequently, a conservative approach was chosen to address both the aesthetic and functional aspects of her teeth.

Treatment Plan

Preparatory Steps

A comprehensive dental examination, including intra-oral x-rays, was conducted. Both frontal incisors were found to be vital but highly sensitive. The broken piece of the right central incisor was bonded in place, while a sealing was applied to the left central incisor as a protective measure until the final step. Impressions were taken for further treatment planning.

Filling Design

Gypsum models were created based on the impressions. The teeth were reconstructed using white wax, taking care to achieve the desired shape and aesthetics.

Filling Preparation

Impression was taken from the designed shape to be used as a guide for the final step. The vitality of the teeth was carefully assessed to monitor its evolution after such significant damage.

Filling Placement

Minimal teeth preparation was performed to ensure preservation of healthy tooth structure. Composite material was utilized to restore both the function and aesthetics of the affected teeth.

Follow-up

Multiple follow-up visits were scheduled to monitor the vitality of both teeth and maintain optimal oral health. After two years, Eva's teeth remain in good condition, and she is currently wearing braces as an orthodontic treatment plan.

Conclusions

In cases of significant trauma to the teeth in young children, a conservative approach is often the preferred choice due to their strong potential for recovery. Eva's successful treatment demonstrates the effectiveness of this approach in achieving both functional and aesthetic restoration
